The Soviets

Blog

Saturday May 12th, Stephen's birthday and date of an acoustic gig with the headliners being Tim and Mark from The Charlatans. It's the first time we have performed a full band acoustic set in ages and it's a quality line-up so we have put in the appropriate practice. We are told that our stage time is 9pm so I settle in to watch The Jar Family who are brilliant, safe in the knowledge that we have plenty of time before taking the stage. I go outside after their set and there is a scrawled piece of paper saying that we are on at 8.15 meaning we're due on stage.

I am a guest blogger and wanted to share my experiences after spending a weekend on the road with The Soviets. The Soviets played a great set at Buddies in Cromer, Norfolk, on 27th May before travelling to Playfest in Norwich the next day where they put on a brilliant performance in the tent on Saturday evening. I’ve been a huge fan of the band since the start and it was great to see them playing a festival to a big crowd who appreciated how great the songs are and how suited they are to a festival.

Hello everyone!

As this is my first blog since I joined the band you can imagine I have much to say. Firstly an introduction is in order for those of you who have only just started to follow the band and even those who are long term Soviets fans.

Newcastle Riverside, Wednesday 30th of March will go down as a brilliant gig, and brilliant in spite of some circumstances and one particularly massive hurdle to overcome. When the question was put to me, ‘Would the Soviets like to support the Sunshine Underground?’ I was well chuffed because I’m a fan and I thought that we’d be a good match.
